Gisanga coffee is 100% Arabica Red Bourbon coffee grown in Mbuye Sector, Ruhango District in the Southern Province of Rwanda. This is one of the best regions of Rwanda’s central plateau with altitude of 1,650-1,850m above sea level. It has clay, sandy soil favourable for coffee growing. Currently Tropic Coffee works with over 850 coffee producers grouped under the Cooperative supplying coffee directly to coffee washing station (650 tons of coffee cherries/season).
Over 45% of our coffee farmers are women. We process their cherries separately with a specific women-grown coffee being produced from our coffee washing station. The profits from these coffees are applied directly to supporting women and women's community groups, empowering women in their communities through better health, education and livelihoods. This is a particular focus for Tropic Coffee, promoting rural women in the coffee sector, which is a dream of our founder, Divine Mutuyimana, a young, entrepreneurial women in the Rwandan coffee industry.
Farmers are trained to harvest only ripen coffee cherries from their farm trees. During the harvest period , cherries are hand-picked, delivered daily to the washing station by farmers themselves by foot or by bicycle.

Cupping Notes: | This coffee is very juicy and fruity and has rich flavors of sweet ceder, tobacco, blue violet, blueberry, dry cranberry, red currant, tree tomato, kiwi and hibiscus with delicate floral notes. Very bright and vibrant acidity and exceptionally consistent. Pleasant mint aftertaste. |
